![]() I saved with him logged out and replaced by AI, loaded it back up without him and it took just as long. I didn't know if it was network lag or my PC since I was hosting. We got to around 1500AD and had to quit because it was taking 2-3 minutes after each turn for AI calculations. ![]() Large map, 8 City States, everything else standard). I just played a game with my friend over Steam (We were on a team, and 3 AI teams of two. And if you get a great artist you can culture bomb your way to some of the materials he has. They are fast enough to attack the city and pull back. Once you have dynamite the great walls slowing ability doesn't work anymore btw.Īlso I would recommend some attack choppers. I would have battleships pounding the crap out of it every day as well. ![]() That and the rocket artillery since its range is greater than a cities range. It slows combat down way too much for me.Īt that point I would be going for some missiles. I'll need 3 times as many units as I can afford and without being able to stack units and with the terrain, I can't do more damage than the city heals each turn. So no nukes, on my way to getting bombers but I'm skeptical they will help at all. Luckily I've got a couple sources of oil so I've got a fleet harassing him with a few fighters but apparently in Civ5 everything has decent air defence as his musketmen are dealing 2 damage to my fighters for every 1 damage I deal them. But oh wait, all of the world's uranium is in his territory. So, I gave up and made a bee-line to Nukes. Each age I try again with better technology but his city defence just keeps climbing. Because of the hilly terrain and the fact that he got the damn Great Wall built, my units get chewed up by his city and arty before I can get in position and I can't rotate out units quick enough to keep them alive. I've fortified the entrance to both with a citadel and I've finished building railways through the pass to help push up reinforcements but it turns out that my enemy only has a single, enormous city with a defence of over 100. There are only two passes through the mountains and each are around 4 or 5 squares long. The world is a Pangaea with a giant mountain range separating our two civilizations. So I'm playing a Duel map on Prince with Raging Barbarians. Also, do you guys recommend that we play online and team up, or should we just comp-stomp? Keep in mind that we're not advanced players, but that we want to maximize our fun for the evening. We'll be playing regardless, but have the initial issues been patched out? I thought Civ V was great, and I didn't really notice any glaring AI problems, but I'm still curious. I too am interested to hear the answer to this a friend with whom I used to stay up all night playing Civ3 against AI opponents is visiting for the weekend, so I've redownloaded Civ V and I've ordered him to purchase it too (since it's $17). Have the patches fixed a lot of complaints about wonky AI in the game? That seemed like the main issue people were having at launch, and was the main thing that concerned me. I'm pretty enthusiastic about Civ IV, and am thinking about getting Civ V (as soon as I get my new BF3-to-monitor-adapter PC). ![]() I think I more or less know the answer from the last few pages, but I wanted to ask anyway.
